with Waris Ahmad Faizi and Parwin Faizi, Aizura Batyralieva and Dr. Galina Gorborukova (American University of Central Asia, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan)

On: Wednesday, 19 January 2022, 12:30-2:30 pm (UTC+1) via Zoom.

Moderation: Prof. Dr. Heiko Schrader, Dr. Valerie Waldow (Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany)

The Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan has brought new dimensions of political crisis and suffering with further pressure on the Afghan population for migration. Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries were opening up to Afghan students, anticipating that disruption and uncertainty could make it difficult for them to continue higher education in Afghanistan. What happened in Afghanistan and after the Taliban took control of the country? How did the takeover affect the life of Afghan students? How do Afghan students adapt in the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) Bishkek, Kyrgysztan? We invite you to discuss these and other questions together with Afghan students at AUCA and staff.

Otto-von Guericke University Magdeburg and the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek cooperate in the field of social sciences through a joint Erasmus+ programme since 2017. Since then AUCA students have used the opportunity to study at OvGU in the frameworks of PACS, Social Sciences and European Studies. Magdeburg students visited AUCA for their own studies, partcipated in guest lectures at OvGU and in the joint research seminar 'The Intersections of Gender, Family, and Society in Kyrgyzstan'. The event will also offer opportunities to learn more about this cooperation and future plans.
